The first trailer for Tate Taylor’s, Ma has been released. Octavia Spencer stars as a lonely woman who befriends a group of teenagers and decides to let them party in her basement. Her friendship soon turns to obsession creating an atmosphere of danger for everyone involved. Ma is to be released in theaters on May 31st. I am beyond excited for it as I’ve always loved Octavia and she’s never taken on this kind of role before.
Neon has booked domestic distribution for Riley Keough’s independent horror drama, The Lodge. The film follows her character Grace, a young woman with a dark past who becomes snowed in with her fiance's two kids while spending Christmas at his family cabin. The Lodge premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 25th. The Lodge has yet to receive a U.S. release date but I’m sure it won’t take very long now that they have a distributing company. I’ve long admired Keough’s commitment to independent cinema and her dark performance in this film has captured my full attention.
Anya Taylor-Joy is to star in Edgar Wright’s psychological horror thriller, “Last Night In Soho”. The plot is unknown at this time but Taylor-Joy is to play one of the leading roles. Production is scheduled to begin early this summer. It’s expected to be released sometime next year but if it’s ready in time, perhaps it will premiere in Toronto. I’m a massive fan of her’s and I look forward to her proving once more that she is the ultimate scream queen!
